Volunteers are the heart of Tshemba Foundation, offering their time and expertise to improve healthcare services in rural South Africa. Our volunteers, who come from diverse medical disciplines, provide direct patient care, educate local healthcare workers, and support various quality-improvement initiatives.
Volunteer Impact:
- What Volunteers Do: Our volunteers are allocated daily to specific areas within Tintswalo Hospital including accident and emergency, general outpatients and inpatient wards. They support surrounding nurse-led clinics, with clinical expertise and teaching. Quality improvement projects have significantly improved the care of patients and skills of the healthcare workers.
- Volunteer Nights: Each volunteer stay is carefully planned to maximise their impact while ensuring their comfort and mental well-being. Volunteers typically stay for a minimum of three months, with many extending their commitment based on the project needs and their availability. While volunteers cover their living expenses, the costs for accommodation are fully-funded by Tshemba Foundation.
- Cost: Sponsoring a volunteer night costs approximately ZAR 1000 (USD 50), which covers accommodation and essential logistics to support their stay and work.
Hosting the volunteers at Tshemba, allows for rich interactions amongst clinical colleagues from diverse backgrounds, indirectly maximising their impact. By sponsoring a volunteer night, you are directly contributing to the welfare of our patients
